Question:
Stringer's discussion of camera production for Apple was confirmed by The Wall Street Journal:
Early on, he raised the irony of Sony supplying camera components for Apple devices. It "always puzzles me," he said. "Why would I make Apple the best camera?"
Answer:
Because you want to sell 20 million units with no marketing risk, minimal inventory cost, large prepayments from the customer, and unusual engineering support from the customer.
That's why.
One order covers your R&D and production ramp costs across all your other products, profitably.

Does anyone know if that 200Gb Hard Drive will fit in the original macbooks? I have Final Cut Studio but there's just not enough room to run in on my Macbook now.

Surely there's a place for a high capacity iPod. 32GB doesn't cut it. Even 64GB doesn't cut it.

Is anyone else having the issue with the double vibrate when you get a text?? I had this issue with 4.3 and I have heard no complaining about it. Everyone I know who has 4.3 has the double vibrate so it's not just my phone, but I haven't heard anyone else say anything. It's pretty annoying. Anyway, I was just wondering if this fixed that issue or not.

I was quite bummed out about no core 2 duo announcement. Can anybody tell me which, if any, pc companies are shipping with core 2 duo yet? Is this possibly going to be a silent release, and is it perhaps still happening in August or are we in for another long wait?

To all those cutting military by huge percentages, what are your plans to deal with the millions of unemployed that would produce?
Ummmmmmm
we don't spend 700 billion on troops. Cut the useless technology programs, give all the remaining money to troops and their needed supplies and equipment.

Does it mean that apple takes your battery back whether you like it or not? Because it might explode?
They "recycle" the casing. As in use it again. They dispose the battery.
Apparently only nine cases of exploding/flammable batteries have been documented.
And if you don't send it back they will bill you. The cost for not returning the defected battery will be stated in the packaging of the replacement.

What I need is a new MBP refresh with 160gig hard drive and no quality issues. A better GPU would be nice also.
But a new iPod nano sound great since my current one is scratched beyond recognition.
My wish list, which given it's been forever since Apple has updated the nano, shouldn't be too pie-in-the-sky:
1. 12 gigs
2. 20+ hour battery life
3. Scratch resistent
Battery life is the biggest issue with the iPod for me, Apple really need to work on it with the next updates.

I think its fantastic, I like how it looks, I love the cover flow, and the ability to get the covers, and it gets the whole album, not just the one song. The movies/videos Ive got in my library now play flawlessly.
I love it, now all i need is a new iPod, If the iPod photo as it was called. I presume I cant play games on that one?
Edit. Just connected my iPod to my iMac, I love the new screen that itunes comes up with showing your iPod.

And now let the angry "I still can't even find one to buy!" rants.
I'm very amused by this and would love to have been a fly on the wall at Apple when this was all discussed.
I agree, it would also have been fun to see the look in the face of the couple when they got their free iPad. What a great PR move.

As a MBP owner who bought a rev1 model right when they came out -- and has been sending it in to fix its many, many problems constantly, and is now seeing it lag behind the iMacs in speed and power -- I feel like I bought a lemon. Thanks, Apple, for pissing in my face.

Last time I checked iPods and batteries aren't much of a renewable resource. Throw in a spanish-english dictionary with either voice recognition or the ability to spell out the word to find the meaning and I am there.
And add the ability to make voice notes in the margins, and highlight text.
If this is true, it will probably be the end of buying books for me. Imagine the trees saved, the gas and space saved in moving vans. The empty spaces in shopping malls and big block shopping centers.
"What's a book mommy?" "Well, It was like an iPod, but made out of trees"

Those prices are a bargin. Nice to see a $CA1K model - even if the graphic card stinks - but not everyone needs a decent graphics card.

Ok, so here is what I think is happening. The release of MBP may happen before the iPad because Apple want to have customers buy both the iPad and the MBP. On the other hand, the release of a brand new product (iPad) is critical for them and they need to pull everything into it. That's why they choose not releasing MBP untill AFTER the iPad in fear of killing the interest of it.
So my conclusion is that it's either happening this tuesday or never...
and by never I mean many weeks after the iPad launch, far out in april :(

ThinkSecret is generally dead on when it comes to things like this. So, it'd be great if they released an updated 23" iMac. I just got a 5G iPod 30GB in July and am happy with it so I don't need a new 'pod. And yes, I just got a new MacBook 2 weeks ago, but for future purchases, a 23" iMac would be neat.
