imagine let's say that wal mat due to this apple deal with all studios will make a statemnet saying we lost 10% or our revenues so we will lay off 10% of our employess to cover for the losses.!!
now what do you do in this case?
it's not a free world after all....
Wal*Mart losing 10% of their revenue would still leave them a VERY profitable company... and firing that many employees would probably cause them to close some stores... which would result in further loss of profit.
If Wal*Mart lost 10% of their revenue by movie purchases alone, they would have to concentrate harder on other things.
Something else confuses me though...
Wal*Mart caters to the lower income families... who likely don't have high-speed internet and are, thus, EXTREMELY unlikely to purchace movies from the iTS, lest they want to be downloading for 3 days straight. Those people will go to the local Wal*Mart and buy the same movie from the $5.50 bargain bin. Sleazy customers are happy; Wal*Mart is happy. What do they have to be complaining about?
Man, I love that bin. I've found so many awesome movies in there.......... like Total Recall. Okay, so maybe not THAT awesome.

For those who care, here's the prices for the iMacs at the Government Employee discount on Apple's on-line store. (not that they ever really check who is a Government employee or not):
20" = $1410
24" = $1880

Urr no. Sony Vegas had had this sort of pricing for years and is used widely professionally because that was what it was designed for. Do you actually think that being a professional is being about owning a certain piece of software? So true, I know folks still running the original Media 100, GV Edius, MC Meridiens and even first run Premiere.
Folks you really only need one or two video layers to get a job done :)
From my line of work I rarely go higher than 2 since most of my work is done pre NLE (motion design and 3D).

What's your point? That competitors will now also use 8MP sensors? Well, they already have been using them for quite a while. Apple is simply doing a catch up here. By the time iPhone gets 8MP, other phones will have 10MP or more.
The iPhones 5 MP camera is better then the competitors 8 MP cameras. If they are on the same quality level with a new 8 MP camera it will be better then the competitors 12 MP camera.
Megapixel numbers are not as important as most people think.

Anyone see the Magic Touchpad released without explanation? just wait.
It's no Wacom Tablet
This was only a speed bump. I believe Apple will release Touch Macs (already Apple Inc.) as an additional product line along side standard Macs, to ease the transition.
There will always be keyboards, for keyboard shortcuts if not the obvious bulk text entry. Half the work done by pro-applications (not just Apple's) is done with keyboard shortcuts. It's the mouse that's done for. Apple finally perfect the mouse, and they kill it.
I think the Magic Mouse is transitory too. To get people used to using touch on the desktop.

Has anyone considered that apple might not be realeasing the wide screen super secret video ipod because it dosn't exist?
lets all think for a second...
1) touch screens are weak, soft, and matte, not iPod at all
2) they get printy and scratched very easily
3) they would go through oodles of batter power
4) Apple would not make the thing bigger just to hold the extra battery
5) battery life would STINK
6) touch screen starts to complicate the interface, goes against apple's easy as pie rule
7) the thing would have to cost a fortune
You're SO right about 1-5 and 7. I mean if touch screens were hard, shiny, battery efficient, and inexpensive then I'm sure game makers like Nintendo would have used them in handheld game systems like two years ago! And they would have priced it at like $150. But we know THAT will never happen.

Precisely, except maybe not 2.16 GHz
I'm thinking 2GHz and 2.16GHz. That way it's an upgrade from the current versions, but competition with the Macbook Pro is minimized.

people are always worried about "save the trees..." and "there's too much over-population..." Have u ever flown over this country? there's thousands of acres of nothingness. i'm confused.
And if we filled it all with people, they would all die. We need that space. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecological_footprint)
Specifically, however, I'm not sure how much of anything iPod ebooks would save. Sure, if everyone switched to electronic books, all the printing & transportation infrastructure surrounding printed books would stop consuming resources. And just one iPod could function in place of hundreds of books. Want to read a new book? Copy it to your existing iPod.
However, the duplication/transfer of all those ebooks would be carried out by computers, and many more iPods would have to be made to display them to people. The production of so many devices and the running of so many ebook servers would use resources, and electronics are chemically dirty to produce.
Someone would have to do a rigorous resource-use trade-off analysis. I don't think the sustainability benefit of one or the other is at all obvious.

Having to run around looking for weapons, while getting instantly killed is just about as low on my "Fun Factor" scale a game can get.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way...I want more weapons!!! Or more ammo...

That was BEFORE THE T-mobile + ATT merger was announced! WHEN VZW was the largest cell company.
I have a feeling VZW will reverse it's stance and keep unlimited data longer than expected to stay competitive against T-mobile + ATT.
Now with the merger coming , VZW will have to stay competitive, unlimited data makes them more attractive against the ATT + T-Mobile super company.
maybe, maybe not... that's just your opinion on what may happen, not a fact.

There's precious little details on what the actual exploit is, so no.. I don't think anyone here knows, yet.
Yeah, I bet there are no more details released on the vulnerability until a patch is released.

If they are really smart (and the studios play ball, which is doubtful) they would go straight to 1080P.
I agree with you on the DVD quality. But could imagine how long it would take to downlaod a 1080p film? Days! The hard drive space would be another thing, it would be about 10 or 11 gigs for one film! At least. This is not going to be possible for at least 3 or 4 years I would say.
Please correct me if I'm wrong. Just as a test (not very scientific)... I went to the Apple Quicktime site and downloaded "The Queen" HD movie trailer at 1080P. Using an iBook connected to Airport Extreme wifi that's connected to an advertised 5-Mbps internet cable service, it took me about 5 minutes to download the 2-minute, 150-MB trailer. A little math tells me that a two-hour movie will take me about 300 minutes (5 hours) to download, and the size of the file will be about 9000 Mb in size.
To me that's not outrageous. However, it does mean planning ahead. I won't be able to start watching the movie five minutes after I've started downloading it. The real-time viewing will catch up to the download. I would need to give it about a four-hour head start.
No matter, my 1.33-GHz iBook isn't powerful enough to play 1080P HD movies without dropping frames and sound every few seconds. I think there are a lot of people in the same position as me. I cannot believe that Apple will offer just one level of movie quality. Just like what Apple currently offers on its movie trailer site, I'm guessing you'll be able to rent or buy 480P, 720P, or 1080P quality movies.
It took me just 50 seconds to download the same two-minute-long trailer at 480P quality. The size of the file is about 30 Mb. That means it will take me about 50 minutes to download the whole 1800 MB movie. At that rate, I can start watching the movie right away. My internet connection provides a download rate that is twice as fast as the movie viewing rate. That is exactly what I want. On impulse, I can be watching any movie I want within a few seconds. At full screen on my iBook, the 480P movie looks like I'm watching a rented DVD movie. The best part: No trips to incredibly annoying video stores.
I'm guessing the time it takes to download a 720P movie, and its file size, will fall somewhere halfway between the 480P and the 1080P movie.

While there's some positive link between Mac-usage and intellect, you shouldn't take that information as meaning that posting on a Mac Forum gets you any intellect points.
So far, you've added nothing but focusing on the messenger. Which is typical, if knowledge about the topic of discussion is superficial at best.
For all to see.
Sleep tight under your Beatles blanket, son.
Brilliant.
What do you want me to say that people haven't already voiced?
That The Beatles have received 7 Grammy Awards and 15 Ivor Novello Awards.
That they have been awarded 6 Diamond albums, as well as 24 Multi-Platinum albums, 39 Platinum albums and 45 Gold albums in the United States and in the UK they have 4 Multi-Platinum albums, 4 Platinum albums, 8 Gold albums and 1 Silver album?
The fact that you can just dismiss them is laughable but hey i don't want to upset you anymore than i have.
Oh and stop calling me son.

It's both sad and sickening to see how many Apple fanboys are elitists who only want Apple products to be sold at upscale stores. Such fanboys want Apple products to be regarded as high-end fashion accessories and status symbols. What a shame that Apple has such a feminized culture associated with it. I miss the days when Apple products were regarded as tools for accomplishing tasks.
Seems like you have your own special elitism. However, I don't think true Apple fans care where it's products are sold. I know I certainly don't. I have liked Apple products since the early 80s. I'm in it for the technology and productivity. The day they leave that harbor I'm out, regardless of whatever special status the brand may hold. But I have seen no evidence of that happening. Apple products may be more mainstream now than 15 years ago, but they help me be as productive as ever.
Good luck to you guys. As far as stocks for the general population, what a completely botched release by Apple.
In Australia I've checking Apple.com.au regularly. Initially after the first handful were released, their web site has shown 3-4 weeks, that was up for 2 weeks, then dropped to 2-3 weeks, which has now been up for 2 weeks+
Be nice to have some sort of very rough idea!!
Err... seems like a broad estimate like "2-3 weeks" is a rough idea. It's also not a long time. If people would just order and get on with their life there would be no need to hunt and peck and moan.

Oh please. I find nothing positive about scaring children with a bunch of lies to get them to behave.
I agree, but how will we make people feel guilty for murdering someone? I think we can teach children morals without religion but I think there needs to be some coordinated effort to make this possible. This author is at least trying.
Also, believe or not atheists get cancer, lose their jobs, and generally have hard times. People need comfort and support and if there is no religion then there has to be some structure in place to help people through these difficulties.
