It may not be that they didn't have them, rather they were set aside for being who had already reserved them (the point of reservations).

They were not set aside for reservation. I walked in at 11:00 when they opened and the guy said they never received shipment, so.... they started taking reservations.

I have almost been t-boned by a compact car running a red light so what is the difference? Bad drivers are bad drivers no matter what they are driving. I drive an SUV, however it is a Ford Escape so it weighs about the same as any ordinary mid-sized sedan. I just like sitting higher and having 4WD with some ground clearance because I live in snow country. The fuel economy is about the same as any AWD mid-sized sedan and little high MPG compact cars are worthless here in the Black Hills from about November to April. Let people drive what they want to drive and don't force them into what you think they should drive.

Quite obviously you are not the target audience in your Ford Escape.

The original conversation was in reference to someone who drove a V10 Excursion. A vehicle that weighs 8,000lbs.

I think maybe a bunch of air themed releases

    New laptop light as air
with built in 3G chip to get data over the air

Itunes movie rentals, updated apple tv, and slingbox for iphone is on the air

current iphone gets improved bluetooth for listening over the air, Google maps gets triangulation for getting location over the air, Starbucks lets you order coffee over the air

New iPhones will have 3G to let you download faster over the air and GPRS for getting your location over the air.

New and current iPhone to be able to make calls over wifi

While there's some positive link between Mac-usage and intellect, you shouldn't take that information as meaning that posting on a Mac Forum gets you any intellect points.

So far, you've added nothing but focusing on the messenger. Which is typical, if knowledge about the topic of discussion is superficial at best.

    For all to see.

Sleep tight under your Beatles blanket, son.

Sorry Jackie, but I'd want to focus on the messenger too if the subject was 'Bach vs the Beatles' (cough) and the messenger was as condescending, stubborn, ridiculous and as entertaining as yourself.

No one's really trying to claim the Beatles are better than Bach (I can hardly believe I just said that statement seriously), but your arguments are hilariously absurd.

Repeatedly posting in a Beatles thread and sneering at such infantile pop music. Making presumptions about someone's education and throwing your own degrees around. I could go on, but after reading both your stupendous first paragraph of the quote above and your "I have this, and this, and this" signature, it's dawned on me that you must be a joke character. If so, well done. I love the ironic claims of maturity and intelligence.

    ---

As for the Beatles. My (lower-classed, uneducated) world is a better place with their music in it. ...innit!

yeah, I just purchased that one with burgundy bag :)

Was going to get the black as it would have been similar priced when you upgrade the white version to 120gb. But 100+ for an extra 40gb isn't worth it

    Congratulations...what's the estimated shipping time?

Does anyone know how the 7300GT compares to the X1600? I am leaning towards the 20" to replace my 17" rev. A iMacG5, but would upgrade to the 24" is the GPU is a big bump.

Apple has it benchmarked. It is a large jump.

Yeah, hacking is just taking something and tinkering with it to make it do something that it's not really designed to do, isn't it? This can sometimes be useful and fun, but can obviously also be done for malicious purposes, and that's sometimes referred to as "cracking" and the ones who do it as "crackers".

Wait a second. They use a 3rd party wireless card, and he said in the end that "the flaw is not in the Apple operating system as we used 3rd party hardware". I'd say that's quite different from the impression I got from reading the macrumors headline here. A default MacBook using the built in Airport isn't vulnerable as far as I can tell.

He also said that the exploit isn't as trivial as a generic buffer overflow. Now, to exploit a generic buffer overflow, you need to have a certain level of l337ness to begin with, so that means you don't have to worry about your neighbour braking into your wireless network, just yet. Unless someone releases premade tools to do the exploitation, I'd say that normal people and small businesses don't have to worry at the moment.

This appears to be a variation of another wireless attack in which you decoy the wireless network. In the old attack you could create your own wireless network that appeared as the one you'd expect. This attack uses similar principles.

The lesson here is: wireless networks are not secure. What bugs me most about this story is how it was presented as an Apple flaw, when really this is the fault of a buggy device driver and the OS. Windows and possibly Linux would fall under the same flaw.

Using wireless networks is inherently risky and if you're concerned about attacks, say in a financial or security environment, you don't use it.

Of course, all the people who pointed out how 'smug' Mac users are and how they deserved such an attack won't notice this particular situation and will merely cheer and clap in their glee that Apple hasn't built a Olympian-OS.

La-dee-frickin'-da. I still have an iPhone 3G, and I'm not eligible for an upgrade until the end of April. So, as I see it, here are my options:

    1) Upgrade in April to tech that's already a year old.
    2) Hold on to a phone that is slower than cold molasses for another 6-8 mos., with the POSSIBILITY of a new, faster, and better phone.

    3) Move to Android (perhaps the Motorola Atrix) and send the iPhone, Apple, and their seemingly academic product refresh cycles packing.

I have been, in my past, an Apple apologist; I own both a Macbook and an iPad, and love them both. They have the right to release their products when they want. But for some reason, Apple's decision to mix-up their refreshment cycles NOW burns me. I have been looking forward--for once--to upgrading my device at around the time the newest iPhone hits the market, and when I finally get the chance to do it, Apple (potentially) shifts the cycle. Not cool with me.

So, even though I love iOs, I may jump to Android for a couple of years, just to check it out.

And even the interface of the iPod Touch could be much better if they dropped all those useless animations and transition effects that only achieve one thing: They slow me down. And that is especially dangerous when using the bloody thing while driving a car.

That's why I added an iPod interface to my car. Toss the iPod in the glove box and control it from the steering wheel. ;)

Very often, I envy the people who have a USB port in their car radio; they just plug in a USB stick without all those unnecessary fancy things and they are not locked into the "iTunes experience" or any other DRM prison.

DRM prison? Glad I only have mp3s on my iPod.

Why? it's an ipod first of all, and 128 is a step back from 160. who cares SSD or not? its an ipod not a computer.

Actually the HD based iPods don't get along too well with the vibrations generated from a motorcycle. With that said I did take a 6000 mile trip with my iPod Video and definitely put some wear and tear on the HD. Later in life it even started acting up in the Jeep on paved roads. I hope the HD has completely failed now for whomever stole it. ;)

if tapping an orange square is really too much for you, there's always the option of leaving the ipod app open all the time.

The classic is nice while doing yard work. If I don't like a song I can just reach down without looking and hit the skip button. No need to stop, take off the gloves and unlock the screen.

Rationally, the click-wheel has no real advantage over a touch screen.

    See above. ;)

Continuing the ever-present hum of Core 2 Duo MacBook rumors, AppleInsider reports that the much-anticipated upgrade may come this week (http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=2207).

Some readers will recall that last week was filled with similar but less-certain claims. A page 2 report by MacRumors (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/10/20061031195123.shtml) had pieced a few, apparently coincidental reports together that suggested an update may have been in the works by late last week. Even after that did not pan out, a European reseller claimed (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/11/20061102134456.shtml) that Core 2 Duo Macbooks would be arriving for sale on November 13th. This claim is largely regarded as a spotlight grab, and there is no evidence that the reseller has any inside information.

The newest information published by AppleInsider reveals 3 Apple product numbers. The product numbers are in sequence, which is common for products in the same family, and suggests that the numbers will be used as the replacement numbers for Apple's 3 MacBook models. The new products are reportedly en-route to the U.S. this week.

AppleInsider has previously claimed that development of the models had been finished (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/09/20060919000003.shtml) and was set for release before the beginning of the holiday shopping season at the end of November.

Wouldn't it be great if a graphics card appeared in these updates...?

As much as i hate to admit it, i have to agree with dime on this one. European countries cannot defend themselves, their militaries are a joke. The US pretty much has to do everything on their own, and then we take the heat for everything. Which is pretty much where american arrogance comes from. Sad but true.

On what grounds do you say that? Which of the foremost European countries such as the UK, France, Germany etc. do you think would be unable to defend themselves in a military conflict with a nation that is anything other than orders of magnitude greater in population such as the US, China or India? The scale is completely relative to the other powers at play, and I don't think they exist like you seem to think they do.

That being said, if Republicans put half the effort into saying what Obama is doing is wrong as they did into legislating, this country would be far better off.

So I'm not really proud of what i did today; that is finish halo reach in one sitting (although only on normal).

Its a good game and can't wait to get into the multiplayer which is where i think it will really take off.

The story line is defiantly not as good as Halo or Halo 3. It just does not seem to engage me as much but maybe thats because i read the books and already knew the outcome despite some massive inconstancies.

The game play is still really good and the newish guns are awesome, as well as the armour abilities. And its still got that classic halo feel.

Oh and you can drive forklifts :D

Add me if you wanna play multiplayer sometime soon when the game population picks up a bit gt: HazzaHJ

I have to agree with the last post as that's immediately what I thought last night- different devices have different drivers, he supposedly exploited a bug in the drivers for the external wifi card plugged into the macbook- first of all, who wrote those drivers? second of all, this fails to mention *ever* that apple's airport extreme card/drivers has such a bug to be dealt with-- merely that a mac using such an external card is vulnerable.

and ultimately, he never does load up the Sharing preferences to prove that shell/afs/smb/etc aren't running.

Yeah, bring on Carl Zeiss. Those lenses work majic even on dedicated cams.

    Several Nokias have Zeiss lenses.

And while we're at it, Nokia has a 12mp camera phone already.

It's the photographer, not the equipment, that makes a great photo.

sorry...but her stuff is light years ahead of that old outdated sound.

    Haha, Kesha who?

Comment again when you are 18, if she is still around in 6 years:-)

Maybe the Beatles should have worn meat suits to please today's generation of ignorant , uneducated followers who like celebrities just for being famous.

Just look at the sales numbers every year (not only on itunes) if that is your only measuring stick.

    Beatles win:-)

I do understand people hate for 3D displays, but people calling it a fad, it's not. Not any more anyways.
It is now a part of technological evolution for TVs and image devices.
Calling 3D a fad right now is like calling colour TV a fad in the 1950s. Just like how colour TV to start wasn't perfect, 3D isn't perfect yet either.

We all know Apple is the king of imaging technologies, they wouldn't release a product with something like a 3D screen without it being perfect and "magical".

As much as I love them, all of Apple's designs are getting old. The Macbook (nee iBook) has looked the same (minus a few paint jobs) for over 5 years; the current iMac design harkens back to the eMac (yes, I know, its flatter, what an innovation...wheee), which in turn was highly derivative of the original iMac. The MacBook Pro is just an AluPB, which in turn was merely a revision of the original Titanium G4. Now, the "new" iPod nano is nothing more than a iPod mini that went on a diet, and the full iPod, although much sleeker than its predecessors, is still essentially the same design as the iPod that came out in 2001. And the story goes on: the Mac Pro, a warmed over PowerMac G5; the Airport/Airport extreme, essentially unchanged since its release; the Airport Express, a power adapter with flashing lights; the iSight, unchanged since its release; the Mighty Mouse, same design as the Apple Pro Mouse, etc. Essentially, the only new designs in the last three years have been: the Mac mini, the iPod shuffle, and the Cinema Displays, none of which could be considered to be attention-getters. Even the new, unreleased "iTV" is copying the Mac mini design. Not too impressive for a company which claims high design as a main benefit. Where is the new cube? the iMac (& G4)? the tiBook? There is nothing fresh or innovative about their current lineup, nothing exciting or innovative.Instead, its all inoffensively sterile, to my eyes; walking into an Apple store has become similar to walking into IKEA, nothing unexpected, just clean lines. It's like they've become artistically constipated. Or is this just what we get for Apple's new push on "competitive prices"?

In my opinion, its time for some fresh blood, someone with a new vision. And yes, I'm looking squarely at you, Steve and Jonathan. I want to be <i>excited</i> again, and not just by the "guts" of the computer. I, for one, miss the Macworlds of 5 years ago...

    I assume you enlisted then?

I have no problem with an individual wanting to help out someone who needs help. I DO have a problem with wanting your neighbor's son/daughter to do it FOR you, just because you feel it is the right thing to do. If you really, truly thought it was worth it, we should be reading about you on the news (http://www.foxnews.com/world/2010/06/15/american-hunting-osama-bin-laden-gun-detained-northern-pakistan/).

Otherwise, you are just another guy with some political leanings that has no problem sending our troops this way and that.

INB4 "blah blah blah iraq GWB blah blah blah"
-Against that one too, guys

I assume you support our country helping the people of Japan and yet you have not joined a group of rescuers going over seas to rescue them.

I assume you support the efforts of law enforcement to protect yourself and others from murders, thieves, etc. and yet you are not a police person.

I assume you are in favor of firemen who will keep your house from burning down if it ever catches fire. And yet you are not a fire man.

I am a citizen of this country I, pay taxes which pays for firemen, the police, drug research etc. etc.

These are all things that I believe in an yet I am not directly a part of them. Just because I believe in the current actions my country is undertaking in Libya does not mean that I must join the military to show my belief in the rightness of this operation.

Reception to the original iPod launch was mixed. Our own forum responses (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=500) are interesting to look back on, 10 years later.

Interesting indeed! Several forum members where asking for further development of Newton instead... a device that could possibly do everything digital... optical out... and so on. And here we go, only then year after we have these portable iDevices, so no need the iPod anymore. But I can operate the iPod without the need of looking at it, thanks to the scroll-weel, a truly revolutionary and easy to operate interface, yet to be really replaced (more like irreplaceable) by the touch one.

For those complaining about costs - ever thought that maybe the whole purpose of negotiation is for the carrier to host and distribute those updates free of charge to end users rather than chewing up customer's monthly traffic allowance?

I wanna know how that will work for the rest of the world carriers....
